Client Overview: Flipside BBQ is a popular Edmonton food truck known for its unique "Filipino Flavorites" and gourmet twist on barbecue. A staple at local festivals and bustling markets, they serve up bold, vibrant dishes that combine smoky comfort food with Asian fusion. While their street presence is loud and colorful, they needed visual assets that were clean, versatile, and ready for digital use.
My Role: I was commissioned to capture their full menu on a seamless white background to create versatile assets for online use. The challenge was logistics. To ensure the food was fresh and the truck didn't lose downtime, I had to execute a technical, studio-style shoot on-location at an active farmers market while the team was serving a line of customers.
Project Highlights:
Agile On-Location Production: Creating a controlled studio environment in the middle of a busy farmers market required precision and speed. I set up a portable photography station right next to the action, capturing each dish moments after it came off the grill. This allowed us to get the shots we needed without the client having to close up shop or transport food to a separate studio.
Seamless White Background: Despite the chaotic environment, the deliverable remained strict. I photographed every menu item against a seamless white backdrop. This required precise lighting control to neutralize the changing outdoor light and ensure the focus remained entirely on the textures and colors of the food.
Asset Versatility: The result was a library of "cut-out ready" images. These clean assets are essential for flexible marketing, allowing the owners to easily use the photos on online ordering platforms like UberEats, printed menus, and social media overlays without visual clutter.
The Impact: Flipside BBQ now has professional, high-resolution imagery that rivals a high-end restaurant, all captured without disrupting their busiest service day. These visuals help streamline their online ordering experience and ensure their food looks just as good on a screen as it tastes from the truck.
